Hello out there in User-Land. As you probably know, the VirtualGL
Client for Windows is primarily supported on the Exceed X server,
because Exceed allows us to draw in stereo, supports 64-bit Windows, and
achieves the levels of performance we need. However, this is obviously
less than ideal for an open source project, given the cost of that X server.

The problem has become exacerbated because, as an independent developer,
I cannot personally afford to maintain a support contract for Exceed,
Exceed 3D, and the Exceed XDK. Despite the business that I've been
sending their way, OpenText has declined my offer to provide advertising
for their company in exchange for free evaluation copies of the Exceed
suite.

At the same time, however, there is not another solution of which I'm
aware that provides the features and performance we need. So, I'm
sending out an open message/plea to the VirtualGL community:

(1) If you have any ideas for alternative X servers that we can support,
then please reply to this message. Per above, what we're ideally
looking for is something which supports high-performance drawing (via
MIT-SHM or another mechanism), seamless window mode, stereographic
drawing (on graphics cards that support it), and 64-bit Windows, but
I'll consider anything at this point.

(2) If you or your organization are currently relying on the VirtualGL
Exceed client, then please shoot me an e-mail describing how you use it
(and how many people use it, if you have that information.)

(3) If your organization is a big user of this feature, or if you think
you might potentially be interested in using it, then please consider
sponsoring its continued development by purchasing an Exceed support
contract for The VirtualGL Project. In exchange, your company's logo
will appear on our Sponsors page.
