The -d option to vglrun doesn't do what you think it does. That is for specifying the "3D X Server", that is, the X server where VirtualGL sends the 3D commands to actually be rendered. Unless you have multiple GPUs that you want to use, then the 3D X Server should almost always be left at the default setting (:0). This is all in the User's Guide, BTW.
