I believe this implies that there is some kind of multiplexer in your laptop,
which you might be able to control to do exactly what you want.

Can you be more specific as to what "turns off the card" actually means? Is it
really made inaccessible to the OS ?

You should talk to the Nouveau developers on IRC to ask for advice. Whatever
works under the other OS and not this one is a sign that something needs doing,
and they'll be able to help you *at least* understand what your possibilities
are.
