This could be related to the fact that TurboVNC 1.1 uses X RENDER 0.8, 
and a lot of recent apps expect RENDER 0.10 functionality and don't 
properly fall back.  Can you try the bleeding edge pre-release binary?

That has experimental RENDER 0.10 support.  There are a couple of known 
issues with it-- when you drag a window off and on the screen, it may 
corrupt the contents of the window, but if it eliminates the visual 
defect you're seeing below, that at least means we're on the right track.
