I think there maybe a bug in the java viewer of TurboVNC-1.1.95.
The -Port option is ignored when -Via or -Tunnel is used. However, Via and
Tunnel work fine when including the port in the server option and not using
the -Port option.
$java -jar VncViewer.jar -loglevel 100 -Server=localhost -Port=5903
-Via=gway
Log setting: 100
Tunnel: Opening SSH tunnel through gateway gway
Tunnel: Forwarding local port 37196 to localhost:5900 (relative to gateway)
main: start called
CConn: connected to host localhost port 37196
CConnection: reading protocol version
CConnection: reading protocol version
CConnection: reading protocol version
CConnection: reading protocol version
...
And on my SSH server, I get:
May 7 14:00:07 gway sshd[19671]: error: connect_to localhost port 5900:
failed.
