Thanks for getting back to me. I don't believe I'm using a binary driver,
the NVIDIA X server settings say Driver version 331.49. I also don't
believe I'm switching virtual consoles. When I login remotely, the system
acts as though there aren't any XServer functions connected to it. I
looked at the X display manager - but that didn't seem to have anything out
of the ordinary. I realize this probably isn't a virtualgl/TurboVNC
problem, but I would have thought that someone else would have run into
this problem as well.
One thing I noticed is that logging into the remote system and using the
NVidia X Server Setting tool gives a full description of the the NVidia
setting, but logging in through TurboVNC, the same tool states that I don't
appear to be using the NVidia X driver.
