Could it have to do with file/directory permissions? The directory from which I start virtuoso has the following permissions: bart@hp-g7-02:/opt/virtuoso/var/lib/virtuoso/db$ ls -ald . drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 24 17:42 . I usually start virtuoso as a normal user as follows: bart@hp-g7-02:/opt/virtuoso/var/lib/virtuoso/db$ virtuoso-t -fd but that means user 'bart' does not have write permissions in that directory. Maybe this is not required for the explain function, but maybe it *is* required for the profile function? > Anyway, the query profiles will be analysed by development would will be > able to advise on how the speed might be improved or why they are slow, > so will let you know what they report ... OK. Thanks. That would be nice! In the meanwhile, I should probably start studying section '6.1.7.4 Reading a Query profile' in the documentation in order to be able to understand the output of the profile function. Are there other places in the documentation that are useful to read in order to better understand query profile output?
