Hi Bin,

You cannot make an ODBC connection to the Virtuoso server before the server 
itself is running, which based on the error encountered attempting to start the 
service cannot be the case.

I presume the Virtuoso service registration was successful, can you run the 
following command to check was Virtuoso services are available which will 
confirm this:

        virtuoso-t +service list 

What happens if you attempt to start the Virtuoso server from the command line 
in foreground mode going to the program 
...ad\vos6-win32-20100209\virtuoso-opensource\database directory where your 
installation was made and running the command:

        ..\bin\virtuoso-t -f

Please provide the complete output of running this command. Also confirm what 
Windows XP version ie SP you are running ...
