Hi Christian,

If your server was not shutdown cleaniy then most probably the "virtuoso.lck" 
file used to indicate the server is running and removed when the server is 
shutdown cleanly is still in place. Check the "database" directory of your 
Virtuoso installation directory where the database files are located and if 
their is a "virtuoso.lck"  delete it and then attempt to start the service 
again.
