I just want to say, I am so far just very very impressed with Virtuoso all
around--in so many respects. The SQL is easy to work with, the web-based
tools are great. The feature set, such as semantic web and xml support are
just extraordinary. I haven't tried the Jena interface, but I'd like to look
into that to see if Virtuoso might work as a Drop in replacement for the VIVO
project we have currently using Jena.
It should be the new MySQL if Oracle continues to destroy their product
lines.
That said, no software is ever perfect. To me, the clearest inhibitive
factor to popular adoption is the documentation.
Yes, I agree 100%. We know this is an issue, but we've had to make hard
(and complex) decisions about priorities i.e., get a scalable
multi-model engine out there etc..
We are going to fix the documentation (content and aesthetics). Our goal
has always been to fix the docs via a Wiki effort. Thus, its really our
Wiki Engine (plus Template feature) holding up matters.
It's not horrible but could
be made much better organized, more explicit, and complete (not that it
should be too wordy, either).
Yes.
Also, on UNIX, the default install is not FHS
compliant but easily fixed.
We can fix this easily enough.
Thanks for the kind words and accurate analysis of one of Virtuoso's
current weaknesses i.e., docs.
