i would simplify at max my installation, trowing away anything unuseful;
so, i wonder: can i configure my kernel without usb support?
this way, i will not have usb, hotplug and all these amenities
i see that a visdn_hfc_usb exists
so, i suppose i cannot have a kernel without usb support

i would know a linux conf that (in avarage) should works:
as i understand, u have suse, if i install the same suse release, same kernel
version, same mobo, and so on;
maybe i will get an installation that looks like your one
with some chance to works fine :)
