The NT1 is a very dumb device which can do near to nothing to the audio quality. High bit error rate (besides being evident as D-channel CRC errors) can only introduce "ticks", which is not what you are experiencing. You probably correlated some random software behaviour with the NT1 you were using but I don't think the correlation is real.
