I started with Gentoo from Stage3, without any programms, without using
emerge.
No i downloaded the source codes from samba.org and compiled this programm,
recompiled the kernel with the ppp options an now it works.

Probably Gentoo has headers and ppp configuration dir in non-standard
places,
you have to specify the locations explicitly.
Please then report the locations, so that I can adapt the configure
script,
for great justice.
