What's the exact error message? What server and client version do you use?

In fact, the error message on client should specify what file is
outdated. For example, when attempting to commit changes from an
outdated working copy with SVN 1.6 client you will see the error as
follows:
[[
svn: File or directory 'filename' is out of date; try updating
svn: resource out of date; try updating
]]

The error states path and filename of the outdated item.
