Hi! I'm happy to announce that VisualSVN Server 2.7 RC1 is available for download and testing. You can download VisualSVN Server 2.7 RC1 here: http://www.visualsvn.com/server/download/pre-release/
The current VisualSVN Server 2.7 RC1 build can be installed on production environments. VisualSVN Server 2.7 brings the following main changes: - *New feature*: Permissions Management Delegation using the VisualSVN Repository Configurator. - Access and Operational logs are written to the dedicated log named VisualSVN Server Activity. - Colorized diff in e-mail notifications. Also, VisualSVN Server 2.7 RC1 solves some technical issues encountered in the previous VisualSVN Server 2.6 release. Note that VisualSVN Server 2.6 is not officially announced in our RSS channel and mailing lists. While the current build of VisualSVN Server 2.6 works fine for the new customers, existing customers could suffer from technical difficulties related to permissions migration. We encourage all existing VisualSVN Server users to skip the VisualSVN Server 2.6 release and *wait for VisualSVN Server 2.7*that is going to be released in the near future. New feature: Permissions Management Delegation The main new feature of VisualSVN Server 2.7 is the *Permissions Management Delegation*. This feature allows you to delegate permissions management for particular repositories to the non-administrative supervisors. To manage permissions, repository supervisors are required to install *VisualSVN Repository Configurator* which is a standalone application that communicates with VisualSVN Server using the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) technology. To get started with Permissions Management Delegation, you are required to perform the following main steps: 1. Install VisualSVN Server 2.7.0-rc1 on your test server. 2. Configure permissions management delegation for some of your repositories. For further details please consider the KB62 article: https://www.visualsvn.com/support/topic/00062/ 3. Deploy VisualSVN Repository Configurator to the repository supervisors. After these steps repository supervisors can remotely connect to the VisualSVN Server using Repository Configurator and manage permissions for the designated repositories. Note that Permissions Management Delegation is available in VisualSVN Server Enterprise Edition only. If you don't have an Enterprise Edition license key, please request a free 45-days trial license here: http://www.visualsvn.com/server/licensing/evaluation/ Deployment of Repository Configurator VisualSVN Repository Configurator has a separate installation package that can be downloaded here: http://www.visualsvn.com/server/download/pre-release/ Repository Configurator installation package is designed to simplify deployment on the Windows platform and satisfies the following requirements: - Installs on a per-user basis. - Ready to be deployed using *Active Directory Group Policies*. - Does not require administrative permissions during manual installation. Managing permissions from within Visual Studio When VisualSVN Repository Configurator is installed on the repository supervisor's computer, it automatically integrates with VisualSVN and can be easily launched from within Visual Studio. To benefit from this integration you are required to download and install the current pre-release version of VisualSVN for Visual Studio: http://www.visualsvn.com/visualsvn/download/pre-release/ Any kind of feedback will be greatly appreciated.
