Dear Jonathan, I am surprised with this bug report because I don't see any changes in the folder-type functionality since VM 8.0.x or even VM 7.19.
The user should set the variable `vm-default-From_-folder-type' to `BellFrom_' in order to handle folders without trailing message separators (two blank lines, I think). It is a good idea to use the command vm-change-folder-type with argument From_ to convert the old style folders. I will add a note in the info file pointing this out.
