Thanks you for your quick replies.  I now realize that the behavior in the bug 
description happens only when replying to HTML mail, replying to normal mail 
works as it should.  Inside the quoted text of the original HTML mail, ENTER is 
bound to 
  
  RET (translated from <return>) runs the command
  w3m-safe-view-this-url, which is an interactive compiled Lisp function
  in `w3m.el'.

This keeps happening after deleting everything referring to w3m from my
.emacs file

Status in VM (View Mail) for Emacs: New

Bug description:
In VM 8.1.0 (to be precise, emacs-vm-8.1.0-0.1.beta.fc12), I cannot break up 
quoted text in a reply by pressing enter.  Instead, I get the message "No URL 
at point".  This used to work just fine in 8.0.14 and the ease of editing 
replies this way (to give detailed point-by-point answers to messages) is in 
fact a major reason for using VM at all!
