A directory reference of any sort I think would kill the > paging never-ending-channel program; and vice versa. I think that CP keeps the object directory in a dataspace of its own. So, as long as one doesn't update the directory, CP has no need to read from the DRCT area. I think I learned this in some delta workshop in the VM/ESA Rel 2 period. At the other hand, if each VM would use the same DRTC area (and the updating VM triggers CP in the other VMs to reread the DRCT area), problems can indeed arrive if the DRCT update frequency is so high that the DRCT cylinders being updated are still being actively read by some other VM. Hence, private DRCT areas for each VM are still recommended.
