This is a legit consulting request/offer, I just talked to him, looked at his company Web site, etc.

He'd prefer someone local in Chicago but would consider someone remote. I asked about the "booting VM" business; he said the system hasn't run since 2000 or so. I pointed out that the system might not boot, might be disassembled, might be missing parts or peripherals, etc., he understands, needs whatever info can be gleaned.

I'm just the messenger, respond as directed by phone or email. If you email -- directly to him and OFF LIST! -- please copy me just so I know someone's responded. Have fun...

My name is Chris and I am an independent IT consultant that is working
with a law firm in San Diego. Our client needs to determine the status
of an IBM mainframe System/390, running VM/ESA and OfficeVision. The
IBM mainframe contains data that relates to one of their cases.
We need to know if the machine can be booted up and what would be
involved with restoring and searching through the OfficeVision data on
the system.

Kind of a long story here, but the inspection is set for this coming
Thursday morning, Dec 1st, in Chicago. It will probably take about 2
hours.

Is this something you could help me with? There would likely be
follow-on work with the client if you have a good expertise in the area
of VM/ESA and OfficeVision.

My cell phone number is 858 829 6437 - please call or email me asap
(this weekend would be great if possible).

Chris
