This is cross posted to VMESA-L and LINUX-390 lists.

Dear colleagues,

As you may know, SAS Institute discontinued future releases
of the SAS software for VM/CMS several years ago. This was
a major blow to our organization and many others who I have
spoken to in the past few years. Perhaps it is too late to
revive SAS on CMS but it is not too late to have a port of
the SAS system on Linux for zSeries and S/390. This could
only make Linux for S/390 a more viable platform. I have
tested an alpha release of SAS for Linux running under VM
and it worked just fine. The reason SAS has not made this
generally available is that they need to see interest from
their customers before they move ahead. There is already a
port for Intel Linux.

One way to show interest is to fill out the online SAS
Ballot and check box #179, port SAS to Linux on the
mainframe. If you are a SAS customer and have this
interest, please take a moment and fill this ballot, even
if all you check is the box above. It takes no more than
30 *seconds*.

You can find the SAS 2006 ballot at :

http://support.sas.com/techsup/feedback/sasware_ballot06/ballot.html

Please note that there is a Group Vote box where you can
enter the names of several people. If you have many SAS
users in your office, you can vote for all of them using
one ballot form. Please do so if this applies to you
because every vote helps.

Thanks.
Aria
