Back in the days with CalFed Bank we had an automated process. Using the
VM:Secure records *LL= and *LA= it would check for unused over 45 days. If
unused it would be put on hold for 30 days. Finally, it would be activated
during a full backup (because somebody always comes looking after it has been
deleted) and then deleted.

Userids were grouped under different managers to prevent seldom used, but
necessary userids (like the Product ids) from being deleted, or ids that got
autologged at IPL and left up all the time.

I think I used SVMMGR for service machines, USRMGR for userids, may have been
others. The process only checked ids managed by USRMGR.

Subject: Poicies Regarding Old Userids

Over the past 2 years, I have been coping with a user directory that has been
largely neglected. I have cleaned out over 12000 userids, some having been
dormant for many years. I want to implement an automated system of suspending
unused ids and subsequently deleting them. Is there anything resembling an
industry standard for removal of dormant ids from a directory? What guidelines
do others follow?

TIA,
Richard
