We find the IBM Virtualization Engine (VE), which contains IBM Director,
to be very usable for Linux virtual machine management when used with the
z/VM Center extensions. Over time the base [free] part of VE will be
enhanced to encompass more elements of base VM system administration not
related to user management.

And if anyone thinks these GUIs will replace the Systems Programmer or
eliminate the need for 3270-style access, think again. For appliances
that might sufficient, but isn't a workable model for complex
multi-purpose operating systems. The goal of the Virtualization Engine is
to provide a common system management experience for all IBM servers, yet
not interfere with underlying systems. (That was the mistake we made with
VIF.)
