Thank you so much for the detailed help.

We don't need VM or LINUX to talk to that z/OS.  We have many Z/OS LPARS 
(none under VM).  Yes, that z/OS system is used only to provide service to 
the Linux guests. The VM and Linux systems are all on the same hipersockets 
LAN and the Z/OS system has the OSA. We do not have any traffic to speak of 
going thru VM.  I think all the traffic is between the Linux guests and 
platforms outside the machine like UNIX. 

We probably could take that OSA off that Z/OS LPAR and run it directly into 
Z/VM and run this vswitch thing to provide access to the Linux guests. 

I'll know more next week when I see a network diagram and meet with my MVS 
guy.  I think I still need to approach this thing from a higher level 
before I get down to the specifics.  I may have asked for the details too 
soon.
