well if the devices are defined in the IOCDS that is active z/VM will see them. You can instruct CP in SYSTEM CONFIG or dynamically via the VARY OFF command to vary devices offline. As well SYSTEM CONFIG is only read by CP at IPL time, so you should use VARY OFF. David
