Hi,
If you are trying to open a set of DICOM files, try the following command:
vmtkimagereader -ifile C:\CTdicom\IM-0001-0001.dcm --pipe vmtkimageviewer

where 'IM-0001-0001.dcm' is the first DICOM image in the folder.

Then you should get 3D slices which you can manipulate using the mouse
center button.
