in addition to Ido's suggestion, you can of course specify the full output
path at the command line:
vmtkimagereader -ifile C:\DICOM_Imag\Normal_PA_Clean\IM1 --pipe vmtkimagewriter
-ofile C:\DICOM_Imag\image_volume.vti
