Hi Yap,

I create text files from VMTK containing XYZ coordinates and GroupIDs of 
the elements of my surfaces by appending:

<yourcodegoeshere> --pipe vmtksurfacewriter -f pointdata -ofile filename.txt

That creates an ASCII text file of my results in space-delimited column 
format (variable names as the first row), which can then be read into 
Matlab using the importdata function.
