Ignoring the fact that you might be breaking the University security policy, then in theory it should work fine from the standard download ... provided the following;
(a) you don't have voicemail at work that's going to answer your phone rather than the modem, (b) the voice system you will be connecting the modem to actually supports data to the necessary degree Regarding the University security policy, check with CiCS (assuming they're still called that) to see if they can offer a solution to the problem. Trust me on this one point, it's better to get advice now, rather than fudge it and break something, and have to call on them to fix it later. Any questions, please let me know.
