Hi Peter...

I have experienced the same problems with my XP machines in the past. I am
not sure of the exact cause, but I believe it has to do with the encoding
algorithms. I use TightVNC, and the problem only seemed to occur when I was
using Tight encoding. Once I changed my viewer defaults to Hextile, the XP
server would remain stable. I'm not sure which flavor of VNC you're using,
but if it's TightVNC give this a try.

  Subject: VNC Server on XP

  Hi,

Hope you can help me out with a small problem I have recently developed. I
have installed Windows XP on my workstation at home in order to control it
from work. Since moving to this platform, VNC will cause my machine to
intermittently reboot when I am controlling it. The only other information
I
can provide is that it seems to happen more when I have many windows open
or
the machine is under a reasonable load. VNC used to work perfectly under
  2000.

  Please Help

  Kind Regards
  Peter Louskos
