Do you have XP's built in firewall turned off?? Sounds like it's still on.
It's in the TCP/IP settings somewhere, I personally have only used it once
or twice.

You can test this by putting a VNC server on the same subnet as your viewer
box and trying it from there. Also you can test basic connectivity via
telnet by "telnet <IP of VNC server> 5900", assuming you're using the
default port. You should see an "RFB 3.xxx" message if you're successfull.
If you have non-XP boxes to test with, you could also probably get a more
definitive answer as well.

Subject: VNC and routing

Hi All

As a newbie to VNC I have to say I've been very impressed. However, I have
hit a problem that I can't resolve and I'm hoping one of you will have an
answer !

The situation is:

I have the viewer on my machine (WinXP) which has an ip of 192.168.0.32/24.
We have an ISDN connection between two Cisco routers to another network
192.168.1.x/24. I have a default gateway set up correctly.I am connecting to
a Windows 98 (or a Windows NT 4.0 - neither work) machine which is runnning
the VNC server.

I can connect to the remote network via ping and telnet, but whenever I
launch the VNC viewer and type in the same IP as ping/telnet it times out
saying it could not find the remote server. There is also no call initiated
on the router. The router has no access-control or filtering set at all
(other than to allow IP) so it can't be the port or packet type ?

It appears that somehow VNC traffic is not getting routed to the default
gateway. Everything else however seems to work fine.

Help !
Steve
