On some Unix systems, "@" is the default "kill" character. Check your stty settings with "stty -a" in the terminal window and see if it says "kill = @".
If so you need to map it to another charater. For instance, to map it to Ctrl-U, you'd type: stty kill \^u Just a shot in the dark since I don't use X. Good luck!
