In a discussion I was following, the question was raised about a
tablet-form computer; ie, 8+1/2 x 11 with a stylus or touchscreen, not
necessarily a hardware keyboard, and what features were desirable and
what hardware vendors were in the market, etc.

I've been thinking about that, and what I concluded is, I'd not
necessarily like the tablet to run linux as most in that discssion
wanted (though that would be nice, and I'd be tempted by the Zaurus but
for it's tiny screen), but I'd want it to run a fast VNC client
(possibly even it could run ONLY a fast VNC client), have 802.11[ba]
networking, at least 640x480 pixels, and at least a couple hours battery
life even while running the network card.

In other words, an updated version of the videotile that yielded the rfb
protocol and vnc software in the first place.

I haven't really seen anything on the market like that; at least,
nothing that doesn't have lots of extras that make it overpriced for the
functionality listed.

I've played around with the pre-IPAQ compaq aero palmtops as proof of
concept, but again tiny screen, and the VNC client has all the lively
performance of a sack of rocks. Indeed, this tinkering is what mostly
made me want 640x480 pixels at minimum and improved performance.

Any thoughts ? Anybody seen anything that might fit the bill ?
