Hi All,

Ever since I installed VNC on my three systems linked via an SMC 802.11b
wireless router, I can't get onto the internet via DSL. I can see my other
systems just fine on the network and access files as well as access the
router's configuration via it's static IP.

I can get out to the internet via modem dial-up ok, but usage of the
router's NAT functionality is gone.

I have uninstalled VNC, deleted all registry settings and even used the
System Restore tool to no avail.

I tried the VNC mailing list but it's impossible to access via modem.

Anyone got any ideas besides reformatting everything?

I know it's hard to believe, but I really think VNC is to blame. The reason
for this is because even on my regular modem ISP dial-up (Earthlink), I
can't access my mail servers or MSN messenger. I can surf though.

I originally had VNC installed on my thinkpad and HTPC connected via a hub
with no router. I couldn't get the VNC client on the Thinkpad to see the
HTPC (or vice versa). I was originally using NetZero as my day-to-day
dial-up. It worked 100% fine before VNC (www, mail, msn messenger). I then
installed VNC on the systems and all of a sudden, I get to the verified
login window of Netzero and it says it can't contact the server. If I leave
the error message up, I can surf, but can't access mail servers or msn
messenger (just like on the Earthlink ISP).

I then went to my friend's house who has two systems connected via an 802.11
router and did some computer housecleaning for her. I figured I'd try VNC on
her laptop and desktop PCs. Worked like a charm. However, immediately after
the VNC install, www surfing was a no go. I could still access the router
through a browser and access all the network shares. Just no www.

Her dial-up ISP exhibits the same problems (surfing www ok, but no e-mail or
msn messenger) as I do, so I'm pretty sure VNC did something or that XP
responded to VNC in some obscene way. Even a system restore to the previous
week didn't fix the situation.

Thomas
