I have network of 27 win98 machines,6winXpPro machines
and 1 Win2k server machine all networked over a
100mbps ethernet network using 192.168.x.x internal ip
addresses. The server is used as a logon server for the
win98 machines and as a dhcp server for them and a
firewall to get out from the network to the internet.
I do not have a need for vnc on the XP machines, since
they are used by experianced users in the admin office
of my school. I use winvnc(att version) on the win98
machines and the Win2k server. I use VNC Commander so
I do not have to type in each ip address or wins name
to connect to each machine in the class. this works
fine most of the time on the win98 machines that I
connect to from my win98 teacher'sstation. But ever
now and then I cannot connect to the win2k
server, which is the primary reason that I have vnc
running.Normally what I have to do is physically go to
the server closet. Close Winvnc from the task bar icon
then call up the task list as stop WinVNC.exe from the
task list. Then restart it from the programs menu.
This never seems to happen on the win98 machines that
are used as student workstations. What could be
happening. If you need more information please let me know
