Subject: Firewall (?) problem

There is no way in hell any of the network people are going to let me know
anything relating to it or give me permission for anything. It's a state
system, and we can't do much at all. We aren't allowed to change the
settings on our own monitors. So I have no idea what ports are what or what
I could do about it if I did know.

but I sort of had this hope that they were soluble. I'd like to do this the
easiest way possible, and preferably not have the network people sicced on
me, but I don't know what way is even possible let alone easy.

If you are behind a firewall it is most likely set up to just allow "valid"
traffic through (web traffic for example). Even if you use the web viewer
on VNC you still need a direct connection to the computer for the VNC
traffic to work. Depending on the way the firewall is set up there may be
ways to "tunnel" traffic through it, but from the perspective of a "network
person" this is going to get you in trouble.

Short answer: if you can't give the "network people" a good reason to open
up the firewall you will have a hard time doing it. And if you do manage to
get it set up you will most likely have some explaining to do down the road
when you are caught circumventing the "network people's" policies.
