I can use the x.x.x.x:-5820 or I use x.x.x.x:4294961476 to connect to a vncserver listening on port 80. This is a win2k pro box, and yes I have tried original vnc, tightvnc, and Esvnc. All the same.

So I'm using Kaboodle (I know, shocking) on my Windoze box to get the VNC server listening to port-80 (I'm adding an "Autostart" button to it, so users can just dial in any port they want and click this button to get the service running without having to fiddle with the registry). Using fport (www.foundstone.com), I can verify that the WinVNC service is listening to the port I specify. Using telnet on another LAN machine, I can verify that it's accepting connections. My problem is getting the viewer to connect to it. Back in January, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> posted the Viewer formula as: Display Number = [desired port number] - 5900 + 65536 So one would think that display number 59716 should be used to connect to a port-80 VNC service. So I tried that with the Tridia Viewer (all that there was on my spare Win98 machine at the time) and the Chromatix viewer on my Mac. The 59716 number didn't work on either. Display number "-5820" *did* work on the TridiaVNC viewer, but not on the Chromatix. So it seems that the Display Number setting is version and OS specific. So I was curious: what works for you? If your running the TightVNC viewer on *nix, does -5820 or 59716 work, or both? Same question for AT&T on Win32, etc. Any data appreciated. I'm hoping that we can find a large common denominator that we can use to advise the many newcomers who seem to be asking this question lately. Thanks! -Scott _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
