did you type the password correctly?

Or doesn't it connect, 'cos if it doesn't connect, then try starting the vnc 
server frist.

Try this 

telnet to the host on the port 5900

if you connect and see somethign like... "RFB 003.003" in the telnet session 
then
the server has been started.
