No offense meant.  My situation is that I have TCP/IP connectivity
directly to the SSH server, so it is easier to run PuTTY locally rather
than over VNC.

I haven't messed with them either, so I can't give you any more info
than the VNC docs ( http://www.realvnc.com/winvnc.html#5 ).  If I had to
hazard a guess I would try the use_KeyPress and/or use_Timer settings in
that order.  Depending on my schedule I might get a chance to try later
tonight so you have some independent verification of how it effects
things.  I'm not sure if I have the talent to tell how PuTTY does
updates by looking at the code.
