How about this: The controlled system can be anything that can be a vnc
server. For a controlling system, you use windows. This system is
configured to "disable remote keyboard and mouse". You give the password
to the controlling systems readonly VNC server to your students, and you
connect to the controllable system sitting at the console that the
students are vnc'd into.
