Hi Tristan, by chance that is what I just discovered. I was comparing the old and the new vncserver files and saw that it had changed. Set it back to '8' in the vncserver file and it starts ok now!
Your suggestion of setting '-depth 8' is a better way of doing it though, rather than modifying vncserver, One interesting thing is that a colleague of mine is able to run on his machine without this change, I guess there is something different in his setup. Or maybe because he is in the head office on the same network as the Sun machines and I am thousands of miles away, connected using ADSL that makes a difference. Try adding "-depth 8" to the vncserver command.
