I start twm, then vncserver. RealVNC provides kde 3.0 desktops or twm
sessions for clients as required. Rather than startup new processes dynamically
via inetd, I open a specific number of vnc's and allow clients to connect in
shared mode.

same here... Works great. I get the best over all usage with 800x600x16 display
resolution. How about you?

I do this also. I find it very handy to have a stripped down desktop (twm) when
doing admin duties on the server, clients, etc.... and be able to run a full
desktop (kde 3.0) via vncviewer when I need to do finer duties or impress the
boss, etc.

You mean you can't startup a vncviewer on the machine running vncsever? What
I've found is this... I have to disable auto compression negotiation via
the-noauto when executing the vncviewer. Also, it seems to initialize faster if
I put the screen size, depth on the same command line.. Without the -noauto
switch, the client starts up then immediately aborts. I'm running 3.3.5 in all
areas of the network.

That said, what errors are being reported? That would be most helpful in nailing
down your problems.
