Subject: dtwm via vnc

From: "Jason Jarvis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
I am having a real problem changing the default window manager using vnc.
I have replaced twm & with /usr/dt/bin/dtwm &
but all this does is gives me no window manager at all.
My vncserver is running on a Solaris sun os 5.8, cde 1.4.5
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi, Jason,
Make sure your xstartup script
also sets PATH to include /usr/dt/bin.
The syntax for that is dependent on
the shell being invoked by that script.
If the 1st line says "#!/bin/csh", then
it's a csh script. If it says "#!/bin/bash",
it's a bash script. You could also set
the path in ~/.cshrc or ~/.bashrc, but
you run the risk of having your settings
overridden by other parent/child scripts
that may run during the login process
(who knows how CDE/solaris really
works).
Depending on the shell, ask your
sys admin the right syntax for setting
PATH (the default virgin xstartup could
very well specify a shell like sh, which
is closer to bash than csh, but I'm not
familiar with it).
Or, you choose the shell that you're
familiar with, specify it on line one,
and make sure all the syntax for the
rest of the script conforms the the
chosen shell.
Good luck.
Fred
P.S. In our setup, using Xsession instead
of dtwm yielded a desktop behaviour that
is much closer to normal CDE.
