Hi, I'm with a non-profit that runs a small 25-30 user office. We have 1 Novell 4.11 server and 2 Windows 2000 servers. Email/access to the internet is provided by a DSL device connection to one of the Windows 2000 servers running Exchange 2000. I've been using the pay service to remotely access my own PC so that I can keep an eye on the servers when I'm not in the office. Milling around on the internet as I'm tend to do from time to time I discovered VNC and everything I've seen points to it being an open source version of that G service... or the G service is simply a pay version, etc.
I've successfully installed and within my office local network connected using the VNC server/viewer and was very impressed with how fluid screen clarity and updates were accomplished. I'd like to implement this as a replacement service for when I am at home, but I'm having trouble understanding how this would work over the net... it seems like much of the documentation I've found is a bit murky on that piece of the puzzle. Basically here in the office we run our LAN with the 192.x.x.x series of ip addresses. Obviously that's not the ip address that is seen from the Internet when using our DSL connection... and at home I run a DSL connection where again the ip address of my PC is not the actual ip address seen out on the net.... so how using VNC would I be able to set things up?
