I concur completely with William's rant.

BTW, on the question of running without VNCHooks.dll. Yes it is
possible. In fact, WinVNC.exe already has full screen polling that
can provide reasonable results (obviously YMMV) in the absence of
that DLL. However, because the source tree from RealVNC and others
accesses the DLL implicitly, the entire program will fail to run
without it. We made some changes to TridiaVNC that convert access
to those functions to be explicit (LoadLibrary()). So, using a
later build of TridiaVNC, you can simply delete (or fail to install)
the VNCHooks.dll and it will just force WinVNC into full screen
polling.

Our goal was to allow unattended TridiaVNC and TridiaVNC Pro
upgrades to be started from a live session with the server
restarted at the completion of the installation and no reboot
required. In order to have more robust results in these
circumstances, we needed to have WinVNC start when the installer
somehow failed to get the new VNCHooks.dll in place. I suppose
there might be other reasons for running without WinVNC.dll that
might make it worth the price. In our case, it is just a fallback
until the next reboot brings the new VNCHooks.dll online.
