I still can't seem to get this working. Here's the scoop on my setup: - Linksys router behind a motorola surboard cable modem connected to Comacst high speed internet - Server is a win98se wired from the router's built in switch. It's LAN IP is 192.168.1.3 - Laptop 1 is connected via wireless pc card, address is 192.168.1.2 - Laptop 2 is wireless as well with IP 192.168.1.4
Problem 1: Can't even telnet from the laptops to the server using telnet 192.168.1.3 5900. Can't use VNC viewers to connect to it either altough the server registers just fine. I also went so far as to get a host to manage my not so dynamic ip address with no-ip.com. Ports 5900 and 5800 are forwarded to the server's lan address, 192.168.1.3 Problem 2: When I connect to the url provided by my no-ip.com service, name.myvnc.com or my WAN IP, I get a login prompt for my router's admin settings.... just as if i typed in 192.168.1.1 from within my LAN. So that does me no good - I don't need to remotely manage my routers settings although I thought that was cool. Whatsmore is that I actually have remote management disabled under the filters tab of my routers settings. Hopefully this will give a hint as to what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone help?! Thanks to tony and bruce for the intial help. Your expertise is greatly appreciated team.
