Hello,
About running on RedHat 8.0 a gnome-session/VNC while another one is
running on the console with the same user, J.W. Vraets wrote:

I had the very same problem, and found the answer <somewhere on the
Web>.
The trick is to
unset SESSION_MANAGER
just before running gnome-session in your scripts.
Some people also noticed memory leaks with gnome-terminal. Here again,
there seems to be a solution, which can be found at:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=76219
and where the proposed solution is to upgrade to the following Xft
RPM:
ftp://people.redhat.com/hp/testing/Xft-2.0-4.i386.rpm
Although I didn't notice leaks on my own installation, I upgraded and
it's harmless. The release notes say that this release fixes a bug
arising with servers with no RENDER extension, which seems to be the
case of Xvnc.
The problem that I'm currently facing is that the gnome-session/VNC
cannot be closed cleanly (Gnome Menu -> Log Out): Nautilus and/or some
other gnome tools complain and the session has to be locally stopped
by a "vncserver -kill".
Any help appreciated (please Cc: to me, since I'm not on the list).
Happy VNC-ing,

Michel
