This can be a font problem, then it can also be something else. You say console, I think you indicate a terminal(-emulator) like `xterm` or such. See the `xhost` command for some details. `xhost` will show the current state, `xhost +` will remove all security. It's also triggered by the "-ac" command to Xvnc. If you remove that, it will start as if `xhost +` is one of the start commands.
