Client behind proxy server

I'm trying to get a VNC client, which is behind a proxy server, to 
connect to an external VNC server. As I understand it, this is not 
possible unless the proxy server can allow outgoing ports other then 80. 
So, am I out of luck if I can't change the proxy server configuration? 
(This is at work, and I know my network adminstrator isn't going to 
change his proxy around just so I can play with VNC.) Or perhaps there's 
some workaround that could be done on the client side, maybe tunneling 
through HTTP? Just shooting in the dark here... Thanks,
