First off I am working with a primarily win98
network with a few win NT workstations as well.
This is a middle school and I am attempting to
use VNC to spy on the students, as there have
been several fairly severe abuses. Now that you
know my situation on to the questions.

1) Does anyone have a reasonably good .pol file
for win98 or possibly NT. I have made a start at
it but don't really feel like duplicating
existing work.

2) Is there any way to force VNC to use the
password per computer in a multi-user
environment? I am aware that if I set the default
user password it will be used as the user
password so if I disallow properties everything
should be fine, however I want the ability to
change the password if I want to. I have tried to
use Poledit and a Java script to overwrite the
user password but ran into problems. Java script
CANNOT write more then one binary value to a key.
I simply can not figure out how to use Poledit to
write the value. Some other ideas I have are to
delete the per-user key every time a user logs on
(this would cause the default key to be used),
however the new key appears to be recreated when
VNC closes which means that the per-user key may
still be used every other time the user logs in
(which would just cause a lag time on refreshing
the password). Another idea I have would be to
use a .reg file to overwrite the registry, this
would just be a little unwieldy but not too bad.
The last idea I have appears to exploit a bug in
the program (I think), although I have not tested
it much, if VNC is started after the user logs on
(as opposed to starting due to the service) the
default user key is used (at least it was when I
killed the copy that was started as a service and
restarted it. Any advice on how to go about doing
this would be appreciated.

3) Where exactly are the per-user settings
stored? The documentation claims
HKLM\software\orl\winvnc3\<username> however they
are not. The global per-user is precisely where
I would put the per-user
(HKCU\sovtware\orl\winnc3). What exactly is the
difference between them anyway?

4) How much does VNC tend to use the CPU. Most of
our computers are Pentium pro 200, do you think
they will bog down too much when a connection is
made? I think I have to keep the wallpaper in
place as I dont really want the students to know
when I am watching, do you think this will matter
much over a 100Mb LAN?

5) My last problem appears to be a bug, however I
have not really figured out what is causing it.
On two of my test computers (out of three) the
there is no default password error came up when
the computer booted EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS ONE. On
one computer this error came up on two
consecutive boots even though I entered it the
first time. Anyone heard of this behavior before.

Sorry about the length of this message, any help
would be appreciated.
