Hi guys,

Sorry I've not got back to you about this sooner - been away for a few days...

the screen, or even crash. The fix may be to turn off CoRRE at

That's not it I'm afraid, at least I turned off CoRRE in the setitngs when I set up ChromiVnc, and have just checked: it's still off.

It's well worth trying with all encodings switched off (i.e. using only raw), just to be sure it really has nothing to do with any encoding. (Though it sounds like it may not.) -In fact, this is really a decent first test for just about any problem you come across when using VNC!

ChromiVNC, or to use TightVNC which I understand fixed this
bug a long time ago.

Hmm, I might try that.

Any chance of getting the rest of Jonathan's reply? Is it still referring to encoding bugs? - If not, it might help provide a clue that could jog my memory on some issue I've come across before, or perhaps make me think of something worthwhile (might not, too...)

There's also a known bug in ChromiVNC which causes it problems when
dragging items... The workaround is to install
vncPatches68k, but I need to re-link Adrian's new site to my own.

Ummm... what new site?? I've not had time to get anything sensible together after I lost the previous one.

You are right: I do encounter this bug but it isn't related to this problem I think. will the '68k' patches also fix this on a ppc machine?

Yes, designed for use on any Mac - in fact, 68k Macs are so slow that it's barely practical to use VNC on them at all. (This is partly down to the CPU overhead required for encoding [so it's best to switch off all encodings, I found], but also to do with accessing video RAM -so if you have a 68k machine with faster VRAM, that will work best. The oldest Mac I tried was a 25MHz IIsi - it worked, but it was totally unusable!). The reason I went with 68k code was because I only had an old programming environment (Think Pascal) which did not compile for PPC. (As well as the challenge that getting vncPatches to work with 68k had never been achieved before :-)

If that s the case, I'd love to know where the patches are. David Smith said something about "vncPatches68k-a5adaptive" referenced on Chromatix's site. Is that the stuff you are talking about?

Yes. Try here (not pretty, but functional...):

(BTW, Jonathan, did you get my e-mail with links to the source?)

Hope that helps!

Adrian
